Are we done talking about AI?

If we're done talking about AI, then it means we're done talking about the eradication of culture. I said that, and that will always be my view. What happens to society when we all have the bite of the AIpple from the Garden Of Meta and decide that life is too hard, so we'll get Chat GPT to write and create what we can not? I have heard from a lot of musicians and small business owners that using AI saves them time, helps them advertise, and saves them money. Does this not seem slightly counter productive? I would rather live in a world where I heard a Lou Reed authetnic croke than someone's 100th comp take, and it's already been AI auto-tuned, auto rendered, auto-mated. I would rather see your child draw your artwork than another manga version of your band with some crappy bubble gum font.

I think I've bored my network to tears about it, but we know that that AI bubble will burst - when there are multiple companies striving to be on top, only a few can be victiours. And what then? We're crashing like 2008 again... except this time we won't have enough water to hydrate our surroundings when it's really tough. I digress... I appreciate AI no-contact will be tough. Even writing this blog, everytime I write an email, some model is learning off of my writing ability. Discover, elevate, encounter, dive-in.... blah blah blah.

So as creatives, we need to take a stand. The eradication of human thought, of imagination, of critical thinking and the art of conversation are all vulnerable. Efficiency becomes automation, automation becomes fewer jobs, fewer jobs means less money, less money means the closure of venues....

I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted here - however, I was asked the other day by someone who I thought should know better if I 'ever use AI to generate ideas?'. Why? If I can't generate the idea, then I need to try harder, or reframe it, or come back to it later. Or maybe I'm not the one to generate the idea in that instant.

I ran this blog through a spell checker and there were lots of little yellow lines underneath... but I would rather see those little yellow lines than perfectionism. Copywriting is a skill, creating is a skill, wasting a bottle of water with a prompt is an insult.

Wanna work with me as ethically and AI free as we can? Drop me an email, or a letter if you like - I'll give you my address...

Here's a lovely picture of a cat I know - cat pictures will always win in the battle of the slop.

A ragdoll cat with its eyes closed sitting in the shade amongst some flower pots.
